Welcome to the Research Group on Professionalization in Teacher Education
The Research Group on Professionalization in Teacher Education, led by Professor Dr. Natalie Förster, focuses on the interplay between assessment of student learning and instructional support in school contexts, as well as on the professional competencies teachers require for this purpose.
In our research, we investigate how teaching and learning processes in schools can be designed in differentiated, interactive, and effective ways using assessment information, and which competencies prospective teachers need to achieve this.
Moreover, we develop (digital) assessment tools to monitor learning progress in reading and mathematics.
To answer our research questions, we primarily conduct longitudinal intervention studies and utilize various data collection methods, including tests, questionnaires, classroom observations, interviews, and log files. A major focus of our research is on primary education. To better understand the requirements for lesson design in heterogeneous and inclusive classrooms, we also investigate the differential effects on students with varying levels of competence.
In our teaching, we offer a variety of courses on assessment in schools and instructional support at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Additionally, we prepare students for their practical training phases and provide guidance throughout these experiences.
